Poston Butte Golf Course

Named after Charles Poston, the "Father of Arizona", Poston Butte Golf Club is located in Florence, AZ. Yes, I did say Florence and yes it does feel like you are driving to Egypt. On the other hand, when you do get all the way out there, it is quite an experience to say the least. Upon arrival, you are greated by an outside service employee right at your vehicle and your clubs get loaded and taken up to the practice green waiting for you when you get out of the clubhouse. The staff on the inside was great and helpful. We had made a tee time and they were nice enough to let us know they were running a special for "all you can play golf" and that included lunch, a drink, and a sleeve of golf balls for $45! We took advantage of that and for some reason we knew we were in for a long day of fun in the sun. Speaking of sun, some golf clubs give you a towel in your cart for personal use, but Poston Butte on the other hand takes it to a new level. When walking out of the clubhouse, there is a huge cooler full of water and ice where they keep plenty of scented ice towels to take onto the course. With the summer heat having arrived already, you can't beat the feeling of cooling off for that minute before the Arizona heat dries you right up. The practice facility is nice, a big putting green and a driving range that provides Callaway golf balls that are in great shape so you can actually see what the ball will do when you do get out on the course. Now onto the course! The opening hole is very nice for the mental part of your game, a wide fairway and is one of the shorter Par 4's out there. The course is fairly wide as it is and the desert is pretty easy to hit out of as well. The best part of the whole trip out to Poston Butte is the ability to putt on the best greens in Arizona. They are beautiful bent grass and putt so true! This is the only course out there so far that we can say that has greens at this level. The rest of the course has great identity and you will never be able to get the same lie twice. Then you come to the signature hole on the course...hole 17. Par 3. When you think of a hole 17 that is a Par 3, only one hole comes to our minds as I am sure it does to you...that's right, TPC Sawgrass! It is an identical island green that can play as short as 120 yards and as long as 160. The wind out there can make the prettiest looking shot go splash and just the opposite as well. As you will see in the video, your eyes will just fall in love with the hole as well as the course itself. Poston Butte Golf Club was a great experience and am really glad we were let known of this course. Now the moment you have been waiting for...the IFIGOLF rating!.

Overall on the IFIGOLF scale of 1-10 Poston Butte Golf Course gets an 9. It would have been a 9.5 if closer to the valley.

I challenge all of the IFIGOLF fans to debate this on our discussion boards if you think I am wrong!
